Ionia County enforces the following State of Michigan Building Codes
- Michigan Residential Code 2006
- Michigan Building Code 2006
- Michigan Electrical Code 2006
- Michigan Plumbing Code 2006
- Michigan Mechancial Code 2006
**The cities of Belding and Portland independently enforce all above noted codes. Effective January 11, 2010 the City of Ionia transferred administration and enforcement responsibilities of the building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes to Ionia County.
The Ionia County Board of Commissioners continues its relationship with Associated Government Services, Inc., (BUILDING INSPECTOR) which covers the aspects of:
- Permit application review as well as submitted plan review
- Responding to code [building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing] questions
- Conducting inspections
- Dealing with code enforcement issues
