Absentee ballots can be requested by contacting your local township or city clerk.  Please note that the Ionia County Clerk’s Office does not distribute absentee ballots.

November 8 Election Candidates and Proposals

Dates & Reminders for the 2016 Election Year:

  • July 5, 2016 is the last day to register to vote in the August 2, 2016 Primary Election.
  • July 26, 2016 is the filing deadline for school board and village(s). Candidates wishing to run for a school board position will file at the County Clerk’s Office.  Candidates wishing to run for a village board position will file with the township clerk in which the village is located.
  • October 11, 2016 is the last day to register to vote in the November 8, 2016 General Election.

WHERE DO YOU FILE TO RUN FOR AN OFFICE?

State Officers:

The Michigan Secretary of State’s website will direct you on how to file for a state office.

Ionia County Elected Officers:

For the positions of Ionia County Prosecutor, Sheriff, Clerk, Treasurer, Register of Deeds, Drain Commissioner, County Commissioner and Probate Judge, you will file at the Ionia County Clerk’s Office.

Running for County Office (For Prosecutor, Sheriff, Clerk, Treasurer, Register of Deeds and Drain Commissioner) 

Running for County Commissioner (For County Commissioners only) 

Please note:  Petition forms are available at the Ionia County Clerk’s Office

If interested in filing for a judgeship, contact the County Clerk’s Office for more information.

Local School Boards of Education:

Belding Area Schools, Ionia Public Schools, Lakewood Public Schools, Portland Public Schools, Saranac Community Schools, Coon School, Haynor School and North LeValley School file at the Ionia County Clerk’s Office.
