Ionia County Sheriff, Dale Miller, has announced his retirement effective December 8, 2018. His current term expires on January 1, 2021.
Michigan election law requires that a statutorily created committee consisting of Probate Judge Robert S. Sykes, Jr., Prosecutor Kyle B. Butler, and County Clerk Janae K. Cooper shall appoint a suitable person to fill the vacancy and who shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term and until a successor is elected and qualified.
The sheriff’s duties include patrolling roads, enforcing state law, investigating traffic accidents, providing emergency assistance to persons on or near the highways, and having the charge and custody of the county jail and of the prisoners therein.
To be eligible for consideration, the suitable person shall be a registered and qualified elector of Ionia County.
The committee will accept letters of interest and resumes from suitable persons until Friday, November 30, 2018, at 4:00 pm, at the Ionia County Clerk’s Office, 100 West Main Street, Ionia, Michigan 48846.
Interviews of persons interested in the appointment shall occur on Friday, December 7, 2018, at 9:00 am in the commissioners’ meeting room located on the third floor of the courthouse.
