The ICCOA’s team of drivers provides non-emergency transportation to Ionia County adults age 60 or older, as well as those under the age of 60 with a disability while funding is available. Medical and dialysis appointments take priority, but transportation can also be scheduled for errands, senior center activities, and for transport to Adult Day Programs. Wheelchair accessible vans are available with advance notice.
Our team is staffed by both paid and volunteer drivers who have all completed a “Passenger Assistance, Safety, and Sensitivity” Training. All Van Fleet drivers have also completed a hands-on Wheelchair Securement Training. Volunteer Drivers transport with their own vehicles, which are inspected yearly.
Transportation fees with a fleet van are $1.50 each way for rides within Ionia County, and $10.00 each way for rides outside the county. Extra stops are an additional $1.50 each and must be pre-scheduled. For transportation with our volunteer drivers, there is a suggested donation of $0.30 per mile. Punch cards are available for purchase in office for $15. Each card is worth 10 paid in-county rides, plus one free ride!
Trip requests may be made in advance or on-demand, but our schedules can fill up, especially on peak days. If possible, we recommend you call in advance to schedule transportation, for out-of-town appointments in particular.
Our dispatch software allows us to plug in last minute requests “on the fly” where we have availability in the schedule, especially to local destinations such as to the grocery store or the bank. We are happy to take your on-demand requests.
Drivers are scheduled to depart our facility at 8:30am and return by 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. There are times a driver may be delayed by another client’s appointment, etc, as we transport to many scheduled appointments each day. Each passenger will be given an approximate pick-up time; our drivers will have a 15-minute window within that time to arrive.
