Welcome to the website of the Ionia County Clerk, Janae K. Cooper. The County Clerk’s Office is mandated by the Michigan Constitution and is an elected position serving a four-year term(s), per Michigan Law. The County Clerk is the Clerk to the Ionia County Board of Commissioners, responsible for compiling and maintaining accurate minutes of those meetings. The County Clerk is also responsible for Circuit
Court filings, vital records (birth, death and marriages) and issuing Concealed Pistol Licenses. The County Clerk is also the Chief Election Official supervising and overseeing all federal, state and local elections in Ionia County. The Clerk’s Office also provides genealogy research hours and services, performs notary services, issues Doing Business As (DBA) Certificates as well as other numerous public services.

No genealogy on Tuesdays
Wed-Fri: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Clerk’s Office is open for business during the noon hour. However, we recommend that you call our office first if you are planning on doing business during this time, as it is sometimes necessary to close the office during the noon hour when short-staffed.
