Part 125 of Michigan’s Public Health Code (Act 368 of 1978, as amended) establishes the requirements for constructing, modifying, licensing, and operating a campground in Michigan. Any campground with five or more recreational units must obtain a license from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). Licenses are issued as either seasonal (annual) or temporary (up to four consecutive weeks).
Seasonal Campgrounds
Seasonal campgrounds are inspected annually by the Ionia County Health Department. After each inspection, a report and licensing recommendation are submitted to EGLE.
Temporary Campgrounds
Temporary campgrounds may operate at a single location for up to four consecutive weeks. To obtain a temporary license, operators must submit an online application and receive an inspection from the Ionia County Health Department.
